Camping Les Ormes

 Wednesday 16 April

This morning we travelled north to just beyond Chatellerault to the village of Les Ormes beside the River Vienne.  We were mindful of the fact that the campsite closes for lunch from 12-3.30 (this is France after all!) so we arrived at 11.30 - but just like at Le Jardin de Rose, they had the mowers and strimmers in!  The campsite was empty, so we could choose any pitch, but we needed to avoid the workmen.

So we settled, had our lunch and went out for a walk by the river into the village.  We were going to look for a geocache at the lavoir - see the little roof covering the spring water trough where the women did the washing in days gone by.

First, we just sat on a seat watching the peaceful river.

But then the municipal chaps arrived unloading two large skips - somewhere for the wood from the fallen tree to go.
We realised that where the geo was going to be was behind the danger tape

so we went off to explore the village.

We passed this garden that could do with a bit of tidying - but the frogs love it!

Proper pigeon-holes in this wall.

Thursday 17 April

Here's another photo of last night's campsite at Les Ormes, taken this morning.  A very lovely, peaceful park-like setting.

Today's journey brought us north of Tours to another tiny village, to a Camping-Car Park at La Bruere.

On the way through the village, we spotted a baguette machine - the first this holiday.  So good to find one of these, when there are no shops around.  We've come across them where the bread is actually cooked rather like on a spit, but this one comes ready-wrapped in a paper bag!

Today's walk took us past a rather beautiful chateau and a lake. (Passing the village pump!)

The very impressive new gates to the chateau are quite spectacular
But didn't think much of the old entrance down the road!

It's obviously privately-owned, so we just had to sneak a look through the hedges...

Maybe these Christmas trees are for the village people next December.
