Walk to La Couarde-sur-Mer

 Tuesday 8 April

Today we set off late morning to walk through farmland and vineyards to our next village of La Couarde.  Not easy to see from my photo, but the vines are just starting to sprout.

En route we watched in wonder as the tiniest ants very methodically were moving one grain of sand each across the path and back again, in continuous lines backwards and forwards. When we reached the village, we made our way through the narrow streets to find 2 geocaches, the second one being at the WWI memorial in a park.  We had our picnic here.

The sculpture at the foot is a dying eagle.

The church has beautiful stained glass windows and (as in other churches we've visited) a model inside.

When it was time to walk back, we walked half-way on the beach - with me paddling which felt lovely - and the rest of the way on a footpath through the woods bordering the sand dunes.

And so back to our rather super campsite for our last evening and night here.
Plan to move to another site on the island tomorrow.
