La Couarde - St.-Martin-de-Re - La Flotte

 Wednesday 9 April

  We left La Couarde this morning and drove the short way into St.-Martin-de-Re and parked at the Intermarche carpark.  After shopping, made up a picnic and set off in the direction of the town and the seafront.  We reached the huge citadel area with almost complete ramparts.  There were seats outside the walls, nicely sheltered where we could eat our picnic overlooking the small beach.


The path through the seaward side of the citadel brought us to the port.  We watched the world go by sitting at a pavement cafe having a cuppa.

All the buildings on the island are painted white, some looking a little bit grubby.
I really like the doorways.

Then back to the van to drive another short way to our next campsite, Camping Bel Air and La Flotte.

Our evening entertainment was rugby practise in the sports field next to us!  What a noisy game!


Thursday 10 April

 Yet another beautiful day to explore La Flotte, this time walking from our site.

Another great market to wander around - bought strawberries today.

Then walked to the seafront for a windy walk and sit down for our lunch watching the tide come in and the seagulls enjoying the sunshine. (They don't seem to be the snatching-your-sandwich type here!)

Back to the harbour, reminding us very much of Honfleur.

and enjoying watching these 3 youngsters brave the sea.

Back at the campsite, the children are well catered for.

After-dinner crossword time.  Two selfies in one day .....

Canterbury P&R

 Monday 31 March 2025 Welcome to our new blog for 2025.  After a busy weekend, me leading our Monday Health Walk and John picking up our new car (same make/model Mazda, but white instead of red) this morning, we got the van packed and ready this afternoon to drive to Canterbury to stay the night before our ferry tomorrow morning.  It's a designated motorhome park here, cheaper than the campsite and a quick drive to Dover. (John putting on the screens for the cold night ahead.)

Neufchatel-en-Bray

 Tuesday 1 April Up early to drive to Dover for DFDS ferry.  More or less had the ship to ourselves - well, there were a few lorries, one caravan and maybe 3 other motorhomes and perhaps a few cars on the lower deck, but very few people in the lounge.  So we were off the ship very quickly and en route for Neufchatel-en-Bray.  No photos of here as we've stayed here many times before and apart from sitting out in the sunshine, we walked to the supermarket to buy a few provisions.  So we do apologise for rather boring first two blogs, but tomorrow we shall be moving on to pastures new and more sunshine.

Le Mele-sur-Sarthe

 Wednesday 2 April Another lovely sunny day (but still with a chilly wind), driving SW via Rouen to a Camping-Car Park at Le Mele-sur-Sarthe.  A very pretty spot with the river to one side of us and Lac du pays Melois on the other.  A beautiful walk around the lake this afternoon.  We love being in rural France, so we are beginning to relax ....     So much mistletoe around.  Michael and Eleanor - does this beat our Cheddar tree?? The little white dots in the above picture are the vans on the site.  Below is us very much zoomed in! The River Sarthe We plan to stay here for 2 nights, so will explore the village and surroundings tomorrow.  First stop will be the boulangerie!
