Fouras - Le Jardin de Rose, Romagne

 Monday 14 April

Not much to report today as we left Fouras in the morning and having decided during last evening that we would rather find somewhere inland next, we travelled across some lovely countryside to a small privately-owned campsite.  We came past fields and fields of crops including many of oil seed rape.  Sometimes seeing a patchwork

and sometimes bordering the roads. 

 

 Le Jardin de Rose is in the garden of an English couple who came out here 5 years ago. They are finding there is plenty of work for them on their piece of land and enjoy doing B&B and meeting the campers.

 Tuesday 22 April  This morning we left La Ferte-Vidame to drive further north in stages.  Just love these empty tree-lined roads. We stopped off for a couple of hours at Verneuil-sur-Avre for a wander and coffee.  The church tower is one of the highest we've seen for a small town.  We went to go in, but there was something going on - seemed full of teenagers being spoken to. Beautiful spring flowers in the park and a sculpture of the 2024 Olympic flame just outisde the park. We carried on north around Dreux to Rouen.  The satnav took us west of the city which we thought was less busy than the eastern route, only held up a little bit at roadworks where they are building an enormous flyover.  When that's finished that route will be a breeze. Next stop was where we had planned to spend the night, at an Aire for Camping Cars at Cleres.  We parked up there early afternoon, although we were doubtful about staying the night as all the services that were...

Camping Les Abrias du Perche, La Ferte Vidame & visit to Senonches (updated)

 Saturday 19 April Only to say that we moved a few miles further north, stopping for quite a big shop at a hyper Auchan en route, to come to a small family-run campsite in La Ferte-Vidame.     This is north of Nogent-le-Rotrou and south of Verneuil-sur-Avre - kind of in the middle of nowhere, but we think we mght be just in Normandy. The boss here runs a little restaurant and bar.  It seems that all his family have gathered here for the weekend and they are all having a wonderful time!!  We had a very nice meal there this evening.  They've made us laugh because one of the younger women was wearing a sandwich board advertising all the events they have planned for the rest of the summer and we had to listen to them trying to do some karaoke rather badly for a while!  Dinner was good and we chatted to our English neighbours too.   Sunday 20 April  Happy Easter to all our readers!  A chilly day, so we very happily stayed in for the...

Camping La Tour des Prises, Ile de Ré

 Sunday 6 April As we weren't leaving Taugon until lunch-time, we had a short walk around the village this morning.  Everywhere is very old - the only newish buildings were the Mairie and the Post Office.  So I took a few photos of the 'des reses' waiting to be restored. This is the garden of a lived-in house, but it's full of old windows and even the tree looks sad. It's Sunday morning but the church has closed doors.  We've heard the bells ringing though. A last look at our lovely little campsite - so lovely, we may return. An hour's drive brought us to the bridge from La Rochelle across to the Ile de Re (as in the title today, Re does have an acute accent, but quite a fiddle to do on here.)   We have come to a proper campsite now for 3 nights - it's pleasant and clean, it has lots of facilities including a covered pool and is fairly busy now it's the Easter holiday for children.  We are in a good place to visit various parts of the island.  A ...
