Camping La Tour des Prises, Ile de Ré

 Sunday 6 April

As we weren't leaving Taugon until lunch-time, we had a short walk around the village this morning.  Everywhere is very old - the only newish buildings were the Mairie and the Post Office.  So I took a few photos of the 'des reses' waiting to be restored.

This is the garden of a lived-in house, but it's full of old windows and even the tree looks sad.

It's Sunday morning but the church has closed doors.  We've heard the bells ringing though.

A last look at our lovely little campsite - so lovely, we may return.

An hour's drive brought us to the bridge from La Rochelle across to the Ile de Re (as in the title today, Re does have an acute accent, but quite a fiddle to do on here.)

We have come to a proper campsite now for 3 nights - it's pleasant and clean, it has lots of facilities including a covered pool and is fairly busy now it's the Easter holiday for children.  We are in a good place to visit various parts of the island.  A short walk to our nearest beach at Prises.
Forested dunes behind the beach.
Late afternoon on the beach looking west
and looking east.
The tower outside the campsite which gives it it's name.
A super place to be for a few days, but very windy!!

  1. Glad you have made it to the island, we stayed quite near La Rochelle one year and enjoyed the area. We are all in Downderry now, Andrew arrived yesterday after a whistle stop trip to Canada! He hadn't allowed for -10C and snowy up in Sudbury! Mind you the visiting Aussies enjoyed the snow! We're enjoying the beautiful weather here and getting ready to celebrate the family birthdays. Love Carolyn
